A junior football team in Leicester is celebrating after ‘scoring’ a £1,000 donation to fund a new team kit.
The AFC Fosse U7s junior football team was given the cash by Persimmon Homes North Midlands, as part of the builder’s Community Champions project.
The squad of eight, who have played together for almost two years, were in desperate need of new home and away kits and additional training equipment, team coach Andrew Cross explained.
He said: “We often have to wear bibs to avoid kit clashes but with this donation the team will be able to have new home and away kits.
“The new kits will certainly give the team a real boost and make them look and feel professional. We are very grateful to Persimmon”
As part of the Community Champion initiative groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves can apply for match-funding of up to £1,000.
Nadine O’Dowd, sales director at Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said the Community Champions initiative is a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.
“Sport is such a great way for people to socialise, have fun and keep active. We wish these young, budding footballers every success and hope their new kits will bring them some luck on the pitch.
“If people, who applied, were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
Persimmon Homes North Midlands has developments across Leicestershire, Loughborough, Derby, and Northampton.
